Good weather while waiting for a big storm for Saturday

Sunny weather and rising temperatures are expected for Thursday and Friday, while waiting for a colossal winter storm that will sweep across southern and eastern Quebec.

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement (SBM) for these areas which will receive significant accumulations of snow mixed with blowing snow.

“A major weather system from Texas will enter southern Quebec on Saturday and reach eastern Quebec in the evening,” the federal agency said.

Due to the thaw, the snow could turn into freezing rain or even rain for the eastern sectors of the province, particularly in Gaspésie and Bas-Saint-Laurent.

In the meantime, the weather will be generally sunny with occasional passing clouds in Montreal and the St. Lawrence River Valley with mercury still on the rise.

In Estrie, Beauce and Quebec, the sky will be generally cloudy, but temperatures will be mild until the weekend, according to forecasts from the federal agency.

In the eastern part of the province, a mix of sun and cloud and seasonal temperatures are expected with winds of 20 km/h, and even gusts of 40 km/h in places.
