On Good Boy, singer-songwriter Geoffroy does not deviate from the pop-folk path that he has been tracing for three albums now in the company of his faithful co-directors, Clément Leduc and Gabriel Gagnon. Rather, they are refining. Soften the angles, pamper the rhythms, refine the orchestrations, make the grooves even more flowing, in tune with his mellow voice. Return to the essence of the ballad by enhancing the bluesy colors ofOnly Child and of Hotel Bed, which open the album nicely. Dare a Mandingo guitar motif and exotic percussion on the light cadence ofEarly Morning Suna little pop gem, to better return to a subtly electronicated blues-pop (Blue). Everything here reassures, but, on the other hand, does not surprise, with the exception of Recuerdo de Tiwhere Geoffroy unexpectedly (and frankly successfully) visits cumbia — the title refers to the dog he adopted during a trip to Mexico, inspiration for this album that he will present at MTelus on 1er July, on the bill at the Montreal International Jazz Festival.
