“Golden September” to advance research

Despite advances in research, cancer affects approximately 2,200 children each year (from 0 to 17 years old) and it is responsible for nearly 500 deaths, the leading cause of death by disease in children over the age of one. This disease, which is scary, is even more frightening when it concerns children. We now manage to cure 80% of these cancers, with increasingly suitable treatments, but there is still progress to be made. However, to fight against pediatric cancers, prevention is essential, as well as the means devoted to research.

Golden September inspired by the “Gold in September” born in the United States in 2012, seeks to highlight the specificity of childhood and adolescent cancers in order to raise awarness and raise funds for advance research.

Geraldine Mayr and the Dr Jimmy Mohamed receive the Dr Dominique Valteau-Couanet, oncopediatrician at the Gustave-Roussy Institute in Villejuif in the Val-de-Marne, which is both a care and research center. It presents the cancers that most affect children, the treatments they benefit from and the hopes placed in research. She also tells us the daily life of these children and their parentsbetween joy, worry and pain.
