(Las Vegas) Nic Roy and Evgenii Dadonov scored in the shootout for the Golden Knights who ultimately won 5-4 after having to resist a comeback from the Ducks.
Leading 4-1 early in the third period, the Golden Knights saw the Ducks score three times in the second half of the period to force overtime.
Reilly Smith, Nic Hague, Chandler Stephenson and William Carrier served as Knights scorers in regulation time. Robin Lehner made 34 saves.
Trevor Zegras, Troy Terry, Isac Lundestrom and Adam Henrique replied for the Ducks, the last three between 11:18 and 16:29 in the third period. John Gibson blocked 38 shots. Zegras was the Ducks’ lone scorer in a shootout.
This is the third straight victory for the Golden Knights, who have won 18 of their 21 games against the Ducks since joining the National Hockey League.
The Golden Knights were leading 2-1 after two periods when Stephenson and Carrier went 4-1 before the sixth minute of the third.
But the Ducks hadn’t said their last word, scoring three unanswered goals in just over five minutes. They weren’t able to carry that momentum into overtime, however.
