Frenchwoman Cécile Hernandez won the gold medal in para snowboard cross on Monday at the Paralympic Games in Beijing. This is the 4th Paralympic medal, but the first in gold for the 47-year-old athlete from the Pyrénées-Orientales.
Moments after crossing the finish line, the Catalan broke down in tears. A few weeks ago, the triple Olympic medalist from 2014 and 2018 did not think she could participate in these Games. In December, the organizers had indeed deleted its category. But, with an American athlete, Cécile Hernandez ended up winning her case in court.
Silver medal in Sochi in 2014, then double silver and bronze medalist in Peyong-Chang in 2018 the athlete licensed at the Angles resort has suffered from multiple sclerosis since the age of 19.
