Gojira and “Hymn to Love” ratings boosted by opening ceremony

The surprise performance of metal band Gojira and Celine Dion’s moving rendition of Edith Piaf’s hit at the Olympic opening ceremony sent Spotify streaming soaring.

Listening to the metal band Gojira and the title track The Hymn to Lovetwo musical highlights of the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympic Games, have jumped on the Spotify platform, the latter told AFP on Saturday.

Listening to Gojira, a French metal band with an international reputation, has increased by +106% in France and +80% in total worldwide on Spotify, the world leader in music platforms.

The Hymn to Lovea standard by Edith Piaf, climbed to +426% for France and +497% in total worldwide.

Gojira benefited from a big surprise effect: the French metal group was associated with the Franco-Swiss lyrical singer Marina Viotti to perform Ah! It will be finea French revolutionary song, at the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games on Friday evening in Paris.

This sequence dynamited the start of this ceremony of nearly 4 hours along six km of the Seine, among the monuments of Paris, the first show of this kind outside a stadium.

The Hymn to Lovesung by megastar Celine Dion, on the first floor of the Eiffel Tower, was the grand finale of the ceremony. The 56-year-old Quebec diva had not performed live for four years, between the health crisis and, above all, stiff person syndrome (SPR), a neurological pathology with no known cure.

The illness, which manifests itself in paralyzing crises, has so far forced her to abandon the tours and residency concerts in Las Vegas that were her signature.

In a sparkling white dress, accompanied by a pianist, Celine Dion ended her performance in tears, images of which are still circulating around the world on social media on Saturday.
