Goaltender Marc-André Fleury will play his 1,000th NHL game on Sunday

Quebec goalkeeper Marc-André Fleury must take part in his 1000e career game in the National Hockey League on Sunday afternoon as the Minnesota Wild host the Winnipeg Jets at the Xcel Energy Center.

The Wild made the announcement in a press release issued approximately two hours before the start of the match, which is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. Quebec time.

If the scenario comes to fruition, the 39-year-old Sorelois will become the fourth goalkeeper – and the 388e player — to reach the milestone of 1,000 games in the NHL. The other three goalkeepers are his fellow Quebecers Martin Brodeur (1,266 games), Roberto Luongo (1,044 games) and Patrick Roy (1,029 games).

In 999 career games spanning 20 NHL seasons — including 971 games in a starting role — Fleury has an overall record of 550-320-93, with a 2.59 goals-against average, save percentage of, 912 and 73 shutouts.

Fleury built this track record in the uniforms of the Pittsburgh Penguins (2003-04, 2005-2017), Vegas Golden Knights (2017-2021), Chicago Blackhawks (2021-2022) and Wild (2022- 2024).

The Penguins had Fleury with the first pick in the 2003 draft in Nashville.
