For 2022, the GMC Sierra receives two new versions as well as a good aesthetic update.
Here are five things to know about the 2022 GMC Sierra.
New design
All versions of the Sierra have been aesthetically revised. The truck sports new dual projection headlamps that have been designed to give it a beefier and wider look. In addition, an animated lighting sequence is activated when approaching, starting or moving away from the Sierra.
The Denali and SLT variants are entitled to new rims. Finally, three other colors appear in the catalog: Titanium Rush Metallic, Dynamic Blue Metallic and Desert Sand Metallic.
Redesigned interior
Often criticized for its very understated interior presentation, the GMC Sierra leaps into the future for 2022. Digital instrumentation now incorporates a 12.3-inch screen and the center console has been completely redesigned. The 15-inch head-up display is also available.
From SLE versions, the infotainment system works with Google. This bundles the standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto apps and Amazon’s Alexa function is optional. The screen measures 13.4 inches.
AT4X and Denali Ultimate in the catalog
Among the many versions available of the Sierra, two new products are added for 2022: AT4X and Denali Ultimate.
The Denali Ultimate represents the pinnacle of luxury in the Sierra. Aesthetically, it sports a chrome grille with black accents and 22-inch rims. Inside, you will find leather upholstery and leather elements dotted around the doors, the center console and the instrumentation.
The AT4X takes a completely opposite approach. Indeed, this off-road version employs Multimatic suspensions and DSSV shocks. In addition, the vehicle uses electronic locking differentials front and rear. The driver can select several driving modes for off-road, notably thanks to the two-speed transfer case.
These two new versions are equipped with the 6.2-liter V8 engine, the most powerful in the Sierra lineup.
4, 6 and 8 cylinders on the menu
The Pro, SLE and Elevation versions come standard with a turbocharged 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine. At the time of this writing, GMC had not disclosed horsepower, unlike torque which is 420 lb-ft.
With this engine, which is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission, the Sierra can pull loads of up to 9,400 lbs.
Three other engines are offered under the hood of the 2022 Sierra. First, the 3.0-liter, 277-hp, 460-lb-ft, six-cylinder turbo-diesel that can tow up to 13,200 lbs.
Then there’s a 5.3-liter V8 with 355 hp and 383 lb-ft, and then another with 6.2-liter, 420 hp and 460 lb-ft. Towing capacities are 9,700 lbs to 11,500 lbs and 13,300 lbs respectively. The last three versions mentioned are served by a ten-speed transmission.
The consumer can choose between rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive, available on all variants.
Several driving aids
Following Industry Trend, GMC Sierra Uses Driver Aids Suite GMC Pro Safety. Technologies include: Frontal Collision Prevention System, Automatic Emergency Braking, Front Pedestrian Detection System, Lane Keeping Assist System with System and Park Distance Control.
At the top of the line, the Denali Ultimate comes standard with the semi-autonomous Super Cruise system, optional on the Denali. Other driving aids are offered with the technology package.
The GMC Sierra will arrive in dealerships in the first quarter of 2022. Pricing will be announced closer to the market date.
