(Toronto) The Canadian women’s under-23 basketball team won gold at the inaugural Globl Jam tournament.

Shy Day-Wilson had 19 points and nine assists as Aaliyah Edwards added 13 points and seven rebounds to guide Canada to a 78-60 win over France on Sunday in the final.
Merissah Russell provided 11 points for Canada while Shaina Pellington scored 10 points.
The Baylor University team, which represents the United States, will face Brazil in the men’s final later on Sunday. They defeated Canada 93-87 the day before.
The Canadians led 19-16 after one quarter, but Yvonne Ejim’s stride shot late in the second quarter capped a 13-3 streak for the Maple Leaf representatives, who extended the lead to 13 points . At halftime, they held a 37-25 lead.
Canada added to their lead in the second half. He led 58-43 with a quarter to go and Pellington’s stride shot, with 8:25 left in the game, gave the Canadians a 22-point lead.
Canada’s players went 3-0 in the preliminary round after beating Belgium, France and the United States. In Saturday’s semifinal, they crushed the Americans 85-60 to advance to the gold medal game.
The Globl Jam tournament was created to bridge the gap between under-19 events and senior programs. He gave the Canadiens a rare opportunity to play on home soil.
Basketball Canada dreams of making the Globl Jam a basketball side of the World Junior Hockey Championship. Both in monetary terms and to create a platform to increase the visibility of the sport.
