Globe and Mail boss announces retirement

The daily’s longtime chief executive Globe and MailPhillip Crawley, will retire later this year, and will be replaced by Andrew Saunders.


Mr Saunders, who is the newspaper’s chief revenue officer, has joined the World for the first time in 2002 as an advertising director.

He will assume the position of President and Chief Executive Officer from 1er September, following Mr. Crawley’s retirement at the end of August.

Mr. Crawley joined the World in 1998 at a time of heightened competition among national newspapers following the launch of the National Postand has since seen the company migrate to online news.

Company chairman David Thomson said Mr Saunders had helped lead the newspaper’s transformation from a print-centric organization to a digital model, while emphasizing both subscriptions and advertising.

Mr. Crawley called his successor a “natural leader” who believes in fostering a collaborative culture.
