Global warming is causing sea levels to rise. Thus, in New Caledonia, Ouvéa is increasingly submerged under water.

Ouvéa is an island in New Caledonia. The beach at this heavenly place at the end of the world is plagued by rising waters. The latter slowly disappears and gives way to water. It was 80 meters wide, thirty years ago, while in 2022, it is only a small strip of sand. Ouvéa is one of the islands in danger of submersion, like several others in the Pacific. Fewer than 300 homes are at risk from the rapidly rising ocean.

To avoid finding themselves under water, the inhabitants of the island of Ouvéa who live on the edge of the coasts move and withdraw towards the grounds. To help the populations, the town hall of Ouvéa takes care of the works of connection to electricity or the leveling of the grounds. The cemetery on the island should also be moved. The main road on the island must have been riprap since it threatened to cut Ouvéa in two. Salt water also threatens local crops.
