By 2050, the advance of the sea could be a threat to hundreds of thousands of French people living in coastal cities. Report in Normandy, one of the most vulnerable regions.

David’s Farm Lecordierbreeder in Montmartin-sur-Mer (Handle) is located by the sea. It is threatened by rising waters and erosion. He sees his pastures sinking into the sea: already 1.5 hectares have been swallowed. David Lecordier decided to leave, becoming one of the first climatic displaced herders.

On the Cotentin coast, 5,000 hectares of agricultural land are threatened. The sea could rise a meter by 2100. Other activities are threatened. In Gouville-sur-Mer (Handle), two campsites are in danger. They will eventually have to move further inland. An oyster farmer refuses to leave. To produce oysters, professionals need to be near the sea. Installed a hundred meters from the shore, pumps bring them the sea water necessary to preserve the oysters.
