The summer of 2022 is the second hottest ever recorded by Météo France, after that of 2003. Climate change is not without consequences for our psychological health.

This summer, more than ever, no one could ignore the images of the fires, nor those of the beds of dry rivers or even the deadly floods in Pakistan. For many it is a click, an awareness. “There is a climate of global eco-anxiety. I think that in my generation, we are all quite stressed by the climate. This summer has been an electric shock for a good part of the population”says a young man.

A new type of anxiety and a new medical specialty: eco-psychology. “We will sometimes find in eco-anxiety certain forms of paralysis. We have such a strong feeling of helplessness because the task is enormous, that it can lead us to fatalistic thoughts”, explains Yoan Svejcar, practicing eco-psychologist. Faced with this form of powerlessness, action is a springboard. The marches for the climate are a beginning of commitment, especially among 20-30 year olds.
