Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery | An entertaining riddle, even harder to solve

A true homicide takes place on the private Greek island of a multi-millionaire who has hosted a few friends at his home for a murder mystery weekend. Detective Benoit Blanc will try to find the culprit while all the guests become suspects…

Three years ago, Rian Johnson made moviegoers rediscover the murder mystery genre by giving it a more contemporary touch, not devoid of humor. After the success achieved Knives Out (At loggerheads), no one will be surprised by the arrival of a second episode – completely independent of the first – with a very entertaining enigma, but even more difficult to solve.

Daniel Craig takes over the role of detective Benoît Blanc in Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery.

One of the mysteries also lies in the very presence on this Greek island of detective Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig), the only recurring character in this franchise. Claiming to have received, like the other guests, an invitation contained in a mysterious box whose clues unfold like a puzzle to be assembled, Blanc is finally well received by his host, even if the latter swears never to have sent him the famous box. Miles Bron (Edward Norton) is, in fact, only too happy to have a famous detective near him, who can make the murder mystery game he has prepared for his distinguished guests even more believable.

In this kind of story, the interest – and the viewer’s pleasure in it – comes from the fact that nothing goes as planned. What was initially supposed to be just a game for entertainment between people from high society takes on a much more tense look, because there is real murder. Especially since all the guests would ultimately have a good reason for committing it…

We will not reveal anything about the plot, but we can still point out the mastery that Rian Johnson shows to carry out his story. Daniel Craig, a thousand leagues from James Bond, obviously takes great pleasure in portraying this detective with a strong accent, as well as all those around him, starting with Janelle Monáe. Several personalities also grace the film with a short presence, including Ethan Hawke in the role of a COVID-19 attendant who, in this month of May 2020, really does not hear a laugh…

Looking forward to the next installment!
