Give yourself the means to tell your story

Driven by the creativity, talent and dynamism of its artists, artisans and businesses, Quebec’s audiovisual industry is unique. It is based both on Quebec production, whose success extends beyond our borders, and on its internationally recognized service to foreign productions. It includes the television and film production sectors, but also visual effects, animation and post-production.

Creator of more than 55,000 direct and indirect jobs, with the contribution of more than 2,500 companies, Quebec’s audiovisual industry injected more than $2.8 billion into our economy last year, producing considerable economic benefits. We have been able to develop an industry here with high potential for innovation and growth, in which our companies play a major role, with Quebec leaders and major international players. In the sector, creativity and innovation are also associated with the Quebec workforce, whose talent is celebrated internationally.

In recent years, our industry has faced several upheavals, including technological changes, new listening habits and fierce global competition, particularly since the arrival of entertainment giants. We also face challenges of chronic underfunding, less competitive taxation and labor scarcity.

More recently, the pandemic has affected all our sectors. Today, it is labor conflicts in Hollywood that are having an impact on part of the audiovisual industry. All of these elements could hamper our growth ambitions and our ability to stand out, both at home and internationally.

The sharp increase in production needs, both in quality and quantity, nevertheless creates a window of opportunity for Quebec to distinguish itself from other regions of the world, as it currently does in other sectors of economic activity.

Indeed, we are rich in production which is at the heart of Quebec culture, which must have the means to achieve its ambitions of creation, production and export, but also with foreign production which brings significant capital here. allowing us to have world-class infrastructure, state-of-the-art equipment and a rich pool of talent.

It is therefore essential that Quebec can continue to do well by ensuring the competitiveness of our industry in order to guarantee its sustainability.

To position itself as a global audiovisual hub, it is imperative that the Quebec government support the entire industry and create winning conditions to respond to the realities and challenges it faces.

This October 11, during the event “Projections: a forum that sees far”, more than 125 decision-makers from the sector will come together to develop strategies and courses of action. They work in Quebec production, foreign production, post-production, visual effects and animation. Collectively, they make up almost 90% of the industry.

Supporting our community goes beyond promoting art and culture. This means investing in the economic vitality of Quebec and in the talent and creativity of its artists, artisans and businesses, in addition to encouraging innovation and ensuring succession.

Allowing our industry to have the means to achieve its ambitions means allowing it to create, to tell even more stories from here and elsewhere, to cultivate our talents and to shine at home and on the world stage. . This is an opportunity we cannot miss!
