Give me peace | The Montreal Journal

What can we wish for 2024? Health? Classic. Happiness? Normal. Prosperity? Do we really believe it?

2023 has left its mark on our hearts and minds. The bad news has accumulated, the crises have multiplied and the tensions are real and palpable.

Everything is going wrong.

From strikes to wars to bills to mortgages, we are constantly fighting. Fighting to survive, to protect yourself and to get there.

So what do we wish for 2024? Holy peace. Let us breathe for three and a quarter seconds, let us lower our weapons, let us sweep away the climate of uncertainty, of terror, of tension for a moment, for a breath.

Wishing for peace is a telegraphed response from a distant American beauty contest. But isn’t that what we need most today? Peace in the world, peace of mind, leave us alone, damn peace. True peace. Make peace with our adversary, our neighbor and above all with ourselves.

How?

Give yourself time, put everyday life on hold for a few hours of serenity, love, celebrate and laugh. Laughter, this powerful remedy, is particularly effective in creating peace.

However, we should not forget 2023 and its current events. It should be remembered as the example to avoid. It should be remembered as the year not to be repeated. Especially as a society: whether politically, environmentally, socially or economically.

I wish us a new year that reconciles us, unites us and brings us together. A new year where we will put aside our differences to offer each other peace. The cursed peace.
