Giroux in Florida, Lindholm in Boston, Deslauriers in Minnesota

The biggest names in the deal market are already gone, 48 hours before the deadline.

Updated yesterday at 7:48 p.m.

Forward Claude Giroux will head to Florida, while defender Hampus Lindholm heads to Boston.

For Giroux, the Flyers receive a pick of 1er turn in 2024, a choice of 3and round in 2023 as well as prospect Owen Tippett, drafted in 1er round in 2017. The Flyers also sell Connor Bunnaman and German Rubtsov, mostly minor league players, as well as a 2024 5th round pick. The Flyers keep 50% of Giroux’s $8.275 million salary.

The Panthers had to give up their 1er 2024 picks, as the 2022 and 2023 picks were used to acquire Sam Reinhart and Ben Chiarot, respectively, earlier this week. The conditions attached to the first-round pick are these: The Panthers will get the Flyers’ first pick in 2024 unless that pick is in the top ten. If so, the Flyers will get the Panthers’ 2025 first-round pick.

According to journalist Frank Seravalli of the Dailyfaceoff site, Giroux had let the Flyers know that he would only accept a trade with the Panthers. Thus, the Flyers would never have really entered into negotiations with other teams, in particular the Colorado Avalanche, whose name came up in the rumors.

“Claude was one of the most complete players in the National Hockey League for more than a decade,” Zito said in a statement. He has demonstrated elite leadership and work ethic throughout his career in Philadelphia and we are very excited to welcome a player of his caliber. »

Anyway, with this acquisition, the Panthers reinforce their status as serious contenders for the Stanley Cup. Drafted in the first round in 2006, Giroux has played 1,000 games in a Flyers uniform between February 19, 2008 and today. He has 900 points, including 291 career goals. He helped the Flyers reach the Stanley Cup Finals in 2010 and was named All-Star Game MVP that same season.

Giroux is the second player in Flyers history, after Bobby Clarke, to have played 1,000 games in a Flyers uniform. He had been captain of the team since January 15, 2013.

Lindholm to Boston

In Boston, the Bruins gave up a pick of 1er round in 2022, two choices of 2and round (2023 and 2024), as well as defenders Urho Vaakanainen and John Moore to get Lindholm. Like Tippett, Vaakanainen was selected in the 1er tour in 2017, but has still not been able to establish himself in the NHL.

The Bruins also get American League defenseman Kodie Curran. The Ducks keep 50% of Lindholm’s $5.2 million salary.

Both Giroux and Lindholm are in their final year of contract and will become unrestricted free agents this summer.

As for the Minnesota Wild, general manager Bill Guerin announced on Saturday that he has acquired Quebec forward Nicolas Deslauriers from the Anaheim Ducks. In return, the Wild gives up a third-round pick in the 2023 Entry Draft.

The 31-year-old rugged Deslauriers has scored five goals and had ten points this season. He also had 210 hits in 61 games with the Ducks, ranking him fifth in the NHL.

The six-foot-one, 210-pound forward, a LaSalle native, has played 486 career NHL games, racking up 82 points, including 41 goals.

In nine seasons, he wore the uniform of the Sabres, the Canadiens and the Ducks before joining the Wild. He was drafted in the third round by the Los Angeles Kings in the 2009 auction.
