For Bordeaux, it will finally be National 2, the fourth national level. The Girondins’ defense, aimed at ensuring their maintenance in National, did not work. Thursday, August 1, before the Federal Commission for the Control of Clubs of the National Management Control Directorate (DNCG), the Bordeaux club wanted to avoid going down a further level, after its administrative demotion to National pronounced at the beginning of July.
The arguments were ultimately not enough and the Matmut Atlantique residents should start from scratch, from the depths of French football. They can nevertheless still appeal to the amateur DNCG, at the risk of exposing themselves to a heavier sanction, or even request conciliation as a last resort before the French National Olympic and Sports Committee (CNOSF). But the deadlines are short before the resumption of the National 2 championship on August 16.
The club had already been relegated from Ligue 2 to National on July 9 by the DNCG of the Professional Football League. Troyes benefited from this, being drafted into Ligue 2. National 2 begins on August 16, but the Girondins only have about ten young players under contract after reaching termination agreements with the vast majority of the squad.
Gérard Lopez remains the owner of the six-time French champion club, despite the receivership decreed by the Bordeaux commercial court on Tuesday, July 30. The Girondins’ debts are frozen for six to eighteen months, which could allow a buyer to be found.
