France is facing a new episode of heat. It is over 35°C in the Southwest. The risk of fire is therefore again high. In Landiras, in Gironde, where more than 20,000 hectares were destroyed this summer, the surveillance of the forest massifs has been reinforced.

In Bélin-Béliet (Gironde), the wind is felt at 40 m height. A volunteer firefighter has been on the lookout since 11 a.m. and will remain in his watchtower until nightfall. On the ground, firefighters take over. A tank truck containing 6,000 liters of water has been on the ground day and night since July 11. the “freak”as firefighters called the mega-fire in Landiras (Gironde), is still rampant.

“It is present under our feet but not everywhere: in certain places, also depending on the fuel that there may be, if we are at the limit of the peat, which means that it is buried, sometimes several meters depth”explains Lieutenant-Colonel Eric Pitault, SDIS 33 communications officer. The temperatures expected to reach 36°C on Monday, September 12 are worrying the firefighters.
