Gironde and Charente-Maritime placed on orange “rain-flood” alert, heavy showers expected overnight

The alert takes effect at 7 p.m. and will last until tomorrow. The forecaster warns of an “episode of heavy rain tonight and tomorrow morning in the north of Gironde and the south of Charente-Maritime”.

Gironde and Charente-Maritime are placed on orange “rain-flood” vigilance Monday May 20 and Tuesday May 21. The alert takes effect Monday at 7 p.m. During the night from Monday to Tuesday, frequent showers affect Gironde and Charente-Maritime. These showers, sometimes stormy, will be lasting and will persist at least until the end of Tuesday morning“, writes Météo-France in its latest weather bulletin.

The forecaster warns of a “episode of heavy rain tonight and tomorrow morning in the north of Gironde and the south of Charente-Maritime (…) During this event, accumulations could reach 50 to 80 mm.”

The vast majority of French departments are placed on yellow alert for the risk of storms. According to Météo-France, “strong storms” could affect Ile-de-France, Normandy and the Centre-Val-de-Loire region.
