On Sunday September 25, Italy will decide on the new leader. Favorite, Giorgia Meloni distinguished herself by going to vote in the evening, unlike her opponents.
Figure of the right-wing coalition alongside Silvio Berlusconi and Matteo Salvini, Giorgia Meloni is the favorite for the Italian elections on Sunday September 25, 2022. Between acquaintances for the Mussolini regime or sensational declarations, Giorgia Meloni has once again made herself noticed on this election day, reports Raphaële Schapira, live from Rome: “While most of the candidates decided to get up early to vote, she decided to wait until the last minute and the polls closed.”
Unlike France, where polling stations close in the early evening, Italians have until 11 p.m. to slip the ballot into the ballot box, “reason why the results are not expected until 2 am or 3 am”, recalls Raphaële Schapira. If Meloni succeeds, Italy would become the first country among the founding members of the European Union to be ruled by the extreme right.
