If Sunday January 23, Gims announced in the Sunday newspaper his desire to apply for French nationality once again, the singer faced a new setback. But his video in which the interpreter of Sapped like never before refused to be wished a happy new year and even a happy birthday will hurt him. “This video, I totally regret it (…) I did not want to hurt people. Faith is intimate”, he explained.
Unfortunately the damage seems to be done!
This Tuesday, January 25 in the morning of France Inter, Gérald Darmanin wanted to provide him with an answer. “We have already refused nationality to this gentleman, expressed the Minister of the Interior. There is a very simple article of the Civil Code 21-24, which says that no one can be naturalized if he does not justify his assimilation to the French community. In general, being a supporter of a rigorous Islam is not good proof of assimilation into the French community.
He went on to say: “I assume the fact that instructions are very clearly given, to refuse French nationality, whether one is known or not known when one is a supporter of a rigorous Islam. The services of the Ministry of the Interior will be able to re-examine his request, since we will do it, of course, but not to wish “happy new year” because it is not in conformity with what the friends or the buddies or the brothers of such and such a character would have done, however sacred they may be -il, this is not a good proof of assimilation into society”.
On the set of Do not touch My TV, the case was debated and Gilles Verdez brought some elements: “He was challenged the second time since he could not justify five years of full and complete domiciliation in France. On polygamy, it is a bogus trial (…) he was married civilly only once. What is true is that undoubtedly, there are two religious marriages”. The journalist added that Gims apologized because “In his entourage, he was told (following his video, editor’s note), if you do not apologize you will not have nationality”.
