Gift ideas to support causes

This text is part of the special Pleasures notebook

Why not take advantage of the holiday season to kill two birds with one stone and offer gifts that help people in need and support different causes? Three suggestions.

1. A throw to warm several

Through December 24, Urban Barn will donate $5 for every throw purchased through its One Throw at a Time campaign. In Quebec, the funds raised will be donated to the organization Dans la rue, which helps young people experiencing homelessness. The campaign is in its 11the year. Over the years, it has donated more than 70,000 blankets to people in need and donated $70,000 to charities across the country.

2. Gift boxes to benefit lung health

The Quebec Lung Association has prepared several gift boxes that will please everyone. Well-being boxes for women or men, a fashion box, a technological box, an ecological box, and even boxes for dogs or cats are offered! Funds raised from these sales will be used to help the 12 million Canadians who suffer from lung disease, or one in three people in the country.

3. Raise a glass celebrating women

Since the end of November, the private natural wine import agency Le vin dans les voiles (VDLV) has been distributing Cuvées Militantes wines and poultry in Quebec. Already sold in France, Spain, Sweden, Great Britain, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, Denmark, the Netherlands, Iceland and China, these special vintages are already very popular. What is it, exactly? High quality wines, produced in exclusive collaboration with renowned estates. They can be recognized by their committed labels, created in an artistic approach which aims to make people think about inequalities and systemic discrimination. Each Cuvées Militantes wine is associated with a particular cause. The two women behind VDLV have chosen to donate the profits raised by sales in Quebec to the organization SOS Violenceconjugal. On the French market alone, these vintages have raised more than 18,000 euros since 2021 for various feminist causes. For private import, wines ordered on the VDLV agency’s online store are delivered to your SAQ branch.
