Giant Tiger | Customer data compromised during an “incident” with a supplier

(Ottawa) Giant Tiger announces that the contact information of some of its customers was compromised during an “incident” linked to a third-party supplier it uses.

Spokeswoman Alison Scarlett did not name the supplier, but said the Ottawa-based off-price retailer uses the company to manage its communications and customer engagement.

After recently becoming aware of a security issue with this provider, Mme Scarlett says Giant Tiger has begun contacting its customers about the incident, urging them to use caution when opening emails and receiving phone calls.

Mme Scarlett maintains that no payment information or passwords were part of the compromised data.

Giant Tiger store systems and applications were also not affected.

She added that there was no indication the information was misused, but said the company was working to resolve the incident as quickly and openly as possible.

“We deeply regret that this incident occurred and remain committed to using best practices to prevent this type of incident,” she said in an email to The Canadian Press.
