Heidelberg is one of the most touristic cities in Germany. There is a 13th century castle, typical alleys and this old bridge which serves as an access to the city center. The town hall has decided to make it a symbol, during the day, it is forbidden to cars. In Heidelberg, 80% trips are made on foot, by bicycle or by public transport. “The city center has become much nicer. There is less CO2, it smells less bad and it is really much calmer “, testifies a resident of the city.

It’s hard to imagine telling this, that Heidelberg is located in an industrial region that is home to the headquarters of Mercedes and Porsche. The German environmental party has decided to make this city a laboratory to show how the country can make an ecological turnaround. “We will soon receive the first hydrogen garbage truck, we are in the process of changing our fleet”, explains Raoul Schmidt-Lamontain, the head of climate policy in the German city.
