Germany is reviewing its plans for the flocking of its new tunic which will be worn in particular by the Nationalmannschaft during the next Euro 2024. The font of the number 4, and the possibility of personalized flocking of jerseys with the number 44, gave rise to a controversy, particularly on social networks. The design was close to that of the badge of the SS, a military and then political organization of the Nazi regime in the 20th century.

The German Federation assured that changes would be made. “The DFB verifies numbers 0-9 and then submits numbers 1-26 to UEFA for review. None of the parties involved saw any proximity to Nazi symbolism in the process of creating the jersey designshe explains in a press release. We take this information very seriously and do not wish to provide a platform for discussion. In cooperation with our partner 11teamsports, we will design a new design for the number 4 and coordinate with UEFA.

The equipment manufacturer Adidas, which supplies the outfits for the German national teams, has also closed access to the personalization of jerseys on its store to no longer allow the use of this font.
