Germany | Alexander Zverev again denies assault allegations

(Hamburg) Alexander Zverev has again denied the assault allegations after the Berlin public prosecutor’s office filed a new complaint against the German tennis star.

“For my part, I totally deny these allegations. My attorneys will take care of the case. I won’t say more,” Zverev said in an interview with the DPA news agency as part of the European Open in Hamburg on Monday.

DPA added that the Tiergarten District Court confirmed receipt of the complaint from the prosecutor’s office on July 7, and clarified that Zverev was charged with assault. The court did not offer further details.

The RTL broadcaster was the first to transmit the information on Friday. RTL reported that the alleged victim in the case was Zverev’s ex-wife Brenda Patea, who gave birth to the couple’s daughter in March 2021.

In January 2023, the ATP said it had been unable to find “sufficient evidence” to support domestic abuse allegations against Zverev that had been made by another ex-girlfriend, Olya Sharypova.

Zverev has always denied these allegations.

Zverev, who points at 19e world rank, must face the Slovak Alex Molcan in the first round of the European Open in Hamburg.
