From the Baltic countries to Romania, Eastern Europe fears only one thing: Russia is attacking. We fear its missiles, including nuclear ones. Since the Russian offensive in Ukraine in February 2022, defense budgets have exploded in Scandinavia, Poland, France and Germany. Expenditure aimed at equipping itself with the latest weapons and equipment.

>> Military spending in Europe at its highest since the Cold War

European anti-missile defense is almost non-existent at the moment. Germany is therefore turning to the latest Israeli innovations, the “Arrow 3” anti-ballistic missile defense system. A means of defense produced byIsraeli aircraft manufacturing company Israel Aerospace Industries.

Intercept missiles at very high altitude

Its director, Boaz Levy describes this military innovation as a “exo-atmospheric interceptor”, that is, it intercepts missiles at very high altitudes. “This means that there will be no fallout on the ground and this is one of the reasons why the German government has just purchased this solution”he maintains.

THE “Arrow 3” system could please the rest of Europe. Germany is at the origin of the project “Skyshield” to provide the entire continent with this type of defense. France, for its part, is rather in favor of a specifically European solution. However, no equivalent of the Arrow 3 exists in Europe or elsewhere. In Germany, the “Arrow 3” defense system must be operational by 2025.
