Germany paralyzed by strike. Since dawn on Wednesday January 10, German railway workers have called off a three-day strike after the failure of negotiations on wages and working hours. This is the longest strike in their history for the unions who are threatening to extend the strike. This worries the Germans, in fact, barely 20% of trains ran on Wednesday and the roads are blocked by pickets of farmers protesting against the end of diesel subsidies.

Arrests of politicians in Poland

In Poland, contested arrests. Taking refuge in the presidential palace, the former Minister of the Interior and a conservative MP gave an interview a few hours before their arrest. The country is experiencing a difficult coexistence between the pro-European government of Donald Tusk and the conservative president Andrzej Duda. Demonstrations have since taken place in support of members of the conservative party. They were sentenced to two years in prison in a corruption case.
