German Chancellor asks Moscow for “immediate signs of de-escalation”

09:35 : German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has flown to Kiev (Ukraine), where he is due to hold new talks to try to defuse the crisis. “We expect immediate signs of de-escalation from Moscow”he wrote on Twitter. “Further military aggression would have very serious consequences for Russia.”

08:59 : Ukraine demands urgent meeting with Russia and OSCE (Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe) countries “within 48 hours”. Kiev accuses Moscow of not sharing information on its massive troop movements at the border. The Vienna Document, an OSCE text (in PDF)promotes measures of transparency between the armed forces of the 57 members of the organization.

07:49 : The threat of conflict still hangs over Ukraine. In the country, reservists train for combat and train civilian volunteers for war. Franceinfo was able to attend one of these training sessions. The government wants to recruit more than 100,000 people to join the “territorial defense brigades”, in support of the armed forces.
