Small-farmer’s son, star dancer and now author. Despite his young age, Germain Louvet continues to shine and reveals himself in an autobiographical book.

Aged 28 today, the dancer Germain Louvet was only 23 when he was named to the supreme title of star dancer at the Paris Opera. This passage of his life also marks the beginning of his work Things that are danced (Editions Fayard).

It’s December 28, 2016, as he plays the lead role of Siegfried in the Swan Lake by Rudolf Nureyev, that Germain Louvet goes down in the history of the Paris Opera. “For me, it was absolutely magical”tells the dancer for whom this absolute dream is far from being an end, but on the contrary a new life which begins.

In his storyhe depicts his life, his reality in an institution and a demanding environment. Pressure, humiliations and doubts punctuate the journey of the young artist, who does not intend to hide the difficulties of a dancer’s life in his work.
But Germain Louvet also talks about the pleasure of dancing “this beautiful language” who is asking, as a lot of artistic disciplines, rigor and a passion.

The young man also discusses his homosexuality through this story, that he does not see as a plea, but as a “free speech”. The dancer is on the ballet poster The Bayadere until May 6 at the Opéra Bastille.
