Gérard De Ligault, European Masters champion in high jump

After 40 years away from the athletics tracks, Gérard De Ligault has successfully resumed competition.

From 2016, at 69 years and 11 months, he was French high jump champion in his category (with 1.39 m).

In 2017, he and his wife moved to Bourg-lès-Valence. After taking his license at EARV and for his 3rd European Masters Championships after Denmark in 2017 (5th) and Madrid indoors in 2018 (4th), Gérard was crowned European champion for the over 75s at Braga (Portugal) on February 21.

Injured in the tendon and the calf, I ensured at 1.23 m in pain, after having passed 1.17 on the first try and skipped my 2nd try at 1.20. It’s unexpected given my physical condition but I thought of my grandchildren

He retained his title of Champion of France indoors in Metz (Moselle) at the end of March, and he will also defend it outdoors in Châteauroux (Indre) in mid-June.
