The Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin, will travel to Lyon on Saturday July 30 to meet the police. This trip comes after the two attacks on officials who took place the previous week in the city, indicates the entourage of the minister to franceinfo, confirming information from Europe 1.

Gérald Darmanin will notably meet police officers who work in the Duchère district and inaugurate an administrative detention center.

On Wednesday July 20, around 7:30 p.m., plainclothes police officers were attacked in the Lyon district of La Guillotière by around fifty individuals, while they were trying to arrest an individual suspected of having committed a snatch robbery. They suffered beatings, projectiles and tear gas and two officers were injured.

The following day, Thursday July 21, another police officer was assaulted in similar conditions. He was punched as he tried to arrest a snatching suspect who had fled towards the Guillotière district. In this case, a foreign suspect was briefly arrested. If he was finally put “out of the question”, Gérald Darmanin maintained his decision to expel him, for acts of delinquency, causing controversy.

After the first attack, the Minister of the Interior then posted a message of support on social networks: “Full support for our three police officers who were victims of unbearable violence in Lyon during an operation to take back the ground from delinquency.” This Tuesday, the Lyon prosecutor’s office announced the indictment of a man suspected of having participated in the first attack.
