Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin alerts the prefects to “risks of public order disturbances” in France on the occasion of the first round of the Turkish presidential and legislative elections, and asks them “to prohibit, if necessary, demonstrations linked to these elections and which could seriously disturb public order”, according to a note that franceinfo was able to consult on Sunday May 14. The Minister points “the antagonisms identified within the Turkish diaspora in France” and fear that they are “exacerbated by the disputed character” elections taking place in Türkiye.

Gérald Darmanin recalls that “several incidents” were identified during the early voting which took place on national territory between April 27 and May 9. He invites the prefects to “vigilance”. He asks them that “intelligence services” are mobilized and that, in particular, “the measures necessary for the protection and security of Turkish diplomatic representations and sites of community interest”.
