A wave of suicides is currently affecting the police sector. Since the beginning of the year, 13 police officers have taken their own lives. The Minister of the Interior will receive trade unions and associations on Friday, February 4.

In June 2020, handcuffs thrown to the ground in front of their police station, the police had expressed their anger. Since the beginning of 2022, already 13 members of the police force have committed suicide. The last is a 50-year-old brigadier. Friday, February 4, the Minister of the Interior Gérald Darmanin will receive the unions and police associations.

When the Ministry of the Interior invites us to address a subject as serious as suicides, we always go there in the hope of having important announcements, there are already some that have been made, and concrete things that will be quickly put in place to try to stem this scourge that we have been experiencing for decades at a rate of 40, 50 suicides per year“, Explain Denis Jacob, general secretary of the Alternative-Police CFDT union. In 2019, 50 police officers took their own lives. That year, measures had been put in place: the Minister of the Interior had announced the recruitment of around twenty psychologists.
