Gérald Darmanin jostled by a man before an interview in Guadeloupe, the individual arrested

The man was arrested and taken into police custody. The minister was not injured.

The Minister of the Interior, currently visiting Guadeloupe, was grabbed sharply by a young man on Thursday April 18 near Pointe-à-Pitre, in the premises of the local television channel Guadeloupe 1ère, franceinfo learned from the the minister’s entourage.

According to Gérald Darmanin’s entourage, the minister was coming to record an interview in the channel’s premises when an individual “wanted to grab him and squeezed him tight”, before the intervention of its security service. The man was arrested and taken into custody at the Baie-Mahault gendarmerie.

The minister was not injured. He then recorded his interview as planned.
