Gérald Darmanin is “solely responsible” for the clashes, according to ecologist Sandra Regol

“There is only one person in charge, it is the client, Gérald Darmanin”assures Sandra Regol, Sunday October 30 on franceinfo, the day after violent clashes during a prohibited rally against a “mega-basin” for agricultural irrigation, in Sainte-Soline, in Deux-Sèvres. “What is missed is to have deployed such disproportionate force in the face of demonstrators who were not there to undermine or harm law enforcement”believes the vice-president of the environmental group in the Assembly.

“Unfortunately there are injuries on both sides”, she lamented. “61 gendarmes were injured, 22 of them seriously,” tweeted the Minister of the Interior on Saturday. Several dozen demonstrators were injured, some were hospitalized, according to the organizers of the rally. Six individuals were arrested, indicates the prefect of Deux-Sèvres.

For Gérald Darmanin, the number of injured police officers “shows that it was not a peaceful demonstration but a very violent gathering”. “We cannot reduce each demonstration to the appearance of the Black Blocs, knowing that they appear every time”replies Sandra Regol.

“Every time there are law enforcement officers who are injured, I regret it”continues the Green MP, but for her “Gérald Darmanin always has the ability to condemn environmentalists much louder than others, and all people who fight for rights much louder than others”.

According to her, the “real concern is that some farmers privatize water” whereas “water is a common good that is necessary for our survival”.
