Ten days ago, Friday February 10, 2023, comedian Pierre Palmade, under the influence of cocaine, caused a terrible road accident in Seine-et-Marne. His car violently collided with another vehicle, causing three serious injuries: a 6-year-old child, his 40-year-old father and his 7-month-pregnant sister-in-law who lost her baby. Since then, the comedian has been indicted for homicide and involuntary injuries and assigned to the Paul-Brousse hospital in Villejuif, in an addiction service, placed under an electronic bracelet.
This Sunday, February 19, the Minister of the Interior Gérald Darmanin declared that he wanted anyone driving under the influence of narcotics to automatically have the 12 points of their driving license withdrawn. “I propose the withdrawal of the twelve points of the driving license for anyone who drives while using drugs”, he announced in the columns of Sunday newspaperstating that “the loss of the license is automatic only in recidivism today”. At present, in fact, driving under the use of narcotics is punished by the loss of six points. Additional penalties may also result in license suspension for a maximum of three years.

The Minister added on Twitter that he wants “make compulsory the medical examination of any proven drug user so that he is authorized to drive if he is treated”.
