The Minister of the Interior and Overseas, Gérald Darmanin, denounced Wednesday August 17 the death threats “unbearable” which the spokesperson for the National Federation of Firefighters of France (FNSPF) was the subject of. The latter had “publicly opposed to the reinstatement of unvaccinated firefighters”. “Whatever one’s opinion, these attacks are unbearable”estimated the Minister of the Interior on Twitter.
The spokesperson for the FNSPF, Eric Brocardi, told AFP that he was the subject of death threats “since tuesday”. “Several complaints are in progress”he specified. The FNSPF “will also file a complaint”said its president, Gregory Allione, who brought his “full support” to the spokesperson.
At the end of July, he had estimated in the magazine Marianne that the “lack of staff” at the fire department “existed before the Covid crisis”adding: “We would have the same shortcomings if tomorrow (non-vaccinated firefighters) were reinstated.” The spokesperson for civil security, Alexandre Jouassard, also told AFP that he had been the subject of messages of insults and threats.
According to Civil Security, less than 200 professional firefighters out of 41,800 and 5 000 out of 197,000 non-professional firefighters were not vaccinated and were effectively suspended.
