A crisis with the majority, a minister who resigns, a Prime Minister who herself negotiates a compromise on a text carried by the Minister of the Interior… But Gérald Darmanin nevertheless says he is satisfied with the painful adoption of the immigration bill. He spoke to a few journalists this Thursday, December 21, on the sidelines of a reception at Place Beauvau.
His features are drawn with “three to four hours of sleep per night”, smiled the minister. But Gérald Darmanin assures that he has “the feeling of duty accomplished”. His mission, he argues, “it was a text voted on before the end of the year, without 49-3, without the votes of the RN”. And it doesn’t matter if the National Rally deputies voted for it and if Marine Le Pen claims an ideological victory.
A minister straight in his boots
There is “70% of French people who support the law”continues the minister, castigating in passing “very Parisian good souls”. His conclusion is vitriolic: “Between the Parisian media world and the real country, it is not a gap, but a canyon.” As for the lessons of the left, “the PS makes 2% in the presidential election” explains the Minister of the Interior, while François Hollande believes in The world that Emmanuel Macron “took the ideas of the extreme right”.
Gérald Darmanin is therefore straight in his boots and his gaze is already turned towards the future. Soon, there will be the opinion of the Constitutional Council, then on January 4 a meeting of prefects will take place for the implementation of the law, in particular the regularization of undocumented workers numbering 10,000 per year. Never seen before under the left, assures the person concerned.
