Tone up. Gérald Darmanin canceled, Friday, November 26, the invitation of his British counterpart, Priti Patel, at the meeting scheduled for Sunday on the migrant file. The Minister of the Interior thus responds to Boris Johnson’s remarks asking France to take back immigrants arriving in Great Britain. This dispute comes less than two days after the sinking of a ship off Calais, which resulted in the deaths of 27 migrants.
“We consider the public letter of the British Prime Minister inadmissible and contrary to our discussions between counterparts. Consequently, Priti Patel is no longer invited to the interministerial meeting on Sunday,” said the entourage of the Minister of the Interior. The meeting is however maintained with Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany and the European Commission.
On Thursday evening, Boris Johnson called on France to take back migrants who have allegedly arrived in Britain illegally to resolve the migration problem. A letter “indigent in substance and totally out of place”, according to government spokesman Gabriel Attal, Friday November 26 on BFMTV.
