On the eve of the national mobilization against police violence, Minister of the Interior Gérald Darmanin urges prefects to exercise “particular vigilance”
“This Saturday, September 23, you will be more than 30,000 police officers and gendarmes, from all units and all specialties, mobilized to serve our fellow citizens”wrote this Friday evening the Minister of the Interior Gérald Darmanin, in a “letter of support to the police and gendarmes”, that Franceinfo obtained on the eve of the national mobilization against “police violence”.
“Special vigilance” requested
“Unprecedented, all Republican security companies and mobile gendarmerie squadrons available on the national territory will be engaged”also writes Gérald Darmanin in this letter. “Rest assured that I will ensure that those who smear you, insult you and attack you answer for their actions before justice”he continues.
In a telegram sent this Friday to the prefects and directors of the police and the national gendarmerie, the Minister of the Interior also requests a “special vigilance”, concerning these gatherings planned throughout France. He calls for “report without delay and systematically to the courts insulting and outrageous slogans against the institutions of the Republic”.
Marches at the call of several political parties
This Saturday, marches “against systemic racism and police violence, for public and union freedoms and social justice”, will take place throughout France.
This appeal, launched after the death of Nahel, 17, killed by a police officer on June 27, comes from political parties, such as La France insoumise (LFI) and Europe Ecologie-Les Verts (EELV), but also from around a hundred associations, unions like the CGT, various collectives or movements like Extinction Rebellion. On the contrary, the PCF is not calling for participation and the Socialist Party has announced that it will not be present.
