A party under high surveillance. The resigning Minister of the Interior called on Tuesday, August 13, the prefects and the police to “extreme vigilance” especially vis-à-vis “demonstrations and places of a religious nature” on the occasion of the Christian feast of the Assumption on Thursday.

In a telegram he sent to them, Gérald Darmanin underlines “the very high level of terrorist threat which continues to weigh on France”the approach of the Paralympic Games (from August 28 to September 11) and “the context of strong international tensions, particularly in the Middle East”. All this, the minister believes, “requires the maintenance of extreme vigilance”.

“On the occasion of the Christian feast of the Assumption” celebrated on August 15, he writes, “I would like your attention to be drawn in particular to the services, gatherings, processions and pilgrimages which are traditionally associated with it, particularly in Marian sanctuaries”.
