. But why did a clash break out between the Minister of the Interior and the former player of the French team? Unfortunately, it is much more of a clash, but of a controversy. It all started when the man who now operates in Saudi Arabia took to his X account, formerly Twitter, and addressed his thoughts to the Palestinian people: “all our prayers for the inhabitants of Gaza, victims once again of these unjust bombings which spare neither women nor children”he wrote on Sunday October 15, 2023.
A message which aroused strong reactions because many criticized the player for not having “thoughts” for Dominique Bernard, the teacher killed at Arras high school on Friday October 13, two days before. It took no less to shake Gérald Darmanin off his hinges. The latter notably accused the French striker of being “with notorious links, as we all know, with the Muslim Brotherhood”24 hours after his tweet, on CNews.

Gérald Darmanin ready to “forgive” Karim Benzema
This Wednesday, Karim Benzema responded to the Minister of the Interior through his lawyer, Maître Hugues Vigier. “Praying on October 15 for civilian populations under bombs which spare neither women nor children obviously does not constitute ‘propaganda for Hamas’, nor ‘complicity in terrorism or acts of collaboration'”he notably argued.
This Thursday, the Minister of the Interior
once again mentioned the Benzema case
but for the first time, said he was ready to “forgive”, on one condition. “I will tell you something, if Mr. Benzema is able to show his good faith and able to tweet for the death of this professor to say that it is a heinous death…”he debuted against Yves Calvi on BFMTVbefore continuing: “Because I know that in Islam, we respect all life. True Muslims pay attention to all life, and this is a prescription of Islam. So if Mr. Benzema is able to show that in front of 20 million people who follow him, and because he is eminently French, and he also mourns the death of this professor, well I would withdraw my remarks”. But for the moment, “until proven otherwise, he has made the extremely selective choice to speak the same way as the Muslim Brotherhood”he noted.
