Present continuously since 2003, Georgia will see a new World Cup in France, in 2023. Already in a very good position to qualify, the “Lelos” take advantage of the decision of the board of directors of the Rugby World Cup, Wednesday 9 March, to disqualify the Russian national team.

“The Lelos become the 15th team to win their ticket to France after the Rugby World Cup board ruled that the remaining qualifying matches involving Russia would be scrapped,” explained the international body in a press release on its website. If she does not specify it in her text, it seems very likely that this decision was taken because of the war in Ukraine.

The last directly qualifying place for European nations will be played between Spain, Portugal and Romania. The three nations stand in three points in the standings. Saturday, Spaniards and Portuguese will play a large part of their qualification, in Madrid.

After participations in 2011 and 2019, the Russians will have to wait to play their third World Cup and finally try to sign their first victory in the competition.
