The news was announced Thursday morning on the set of the show hosted by Gino Chouinard.

“The time has come for me to sell my alarm clock,” he joked.

Georges Pothier will have spent 26 years at TVA, including the last nine in the most popular morning meeting on the small screen.

He was on the air at LCN from the launch of the non-stop news channel in 1997, and the following year he became morning anchor. In 2005, he joined the defunct Argent channel, before devoting himself to presenting news at hello hello weekend from 2012 to 2014. Originally from Gaspésie, he began his career as a journalist and radio host in Matane and Rimouski.

“I’ve been with TVA since LCN was created in 1997. I’m proud of how far I’ve come and I thank TVA for giving me a chance. My bosses then and now believed in me and I am grateful to them. I feel incredibly blessed to have been part of the team at Hi hello and to end my career at TVA after such a great trip. The time has come for me to leave my place to someone else. I wish this person as much pleasure at work and as much affection from the public as I have been able to receive,” said Georges Pothier on Thursday.

On June 15, from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m., viewers will be able to witness several surprises to mark the departure of Georges Pothier, whose complicity with Gino Chouinard is legion.

“Georges Pothier’s great skill and talent as anchor and news anchor at Hi hello greatly contributed to the quality of information at TVA and we sincerely thank them. He is now passing the torch to Philippe-Vincent Foisy, who will also be able to take up this new challenge,” said TVA vice-president and chief operating officer Martin Picard.

As for his successor Hi hello, he is already used to getting up at dawn since he pilots the morning show on QUB radio. The devotees of Hi hello know him since the journalist talks daily with Gino Chouinard, around 7:30 a.m. Philippe-Vincent Foisy also makes appearances on the Mario Dumont program and in the TVA Nouvelles bulletins. He was a parliamentary correspondent in Quebec and Ottawa for Cogeco and Radio-Canada.
