Almost 40 years after his death, Georges Brassens remains an icon of French music. An icon now revisited by female voices, who reinterpret her greatest hits.
Aged in their twenties, three women sing the poems of a now century-old artist, Georges Brassens. “The Girlfriends First” have decided to pay tribute to the artist, who would have celebrated his 100th birthday on Friday 22 October. They are inspired by the artist and his songs. “The lyrics, they are incredible. The message they convey and the way he talks about women, it’s true that it’s very beautiful”, explains Erza Muquoli, singer appearing on the album “The Girlfriends First”.
Over several generations, great female voices of the song have revisited the greatest classics of Georges Brassens, from Barbara to Nina Simone. Patachou, one of them, is at the origin of the great career of Georges Brassens. “Patachou calls my father and says’ Canetti, there are in my cabaret […] Brassens, a man who sings, who is absolutely formidable ‘”, says Françoise Canetti, producer. Sometimes accused of being limited with his texts towards women, yet it is one of his productions that was chosen for Women’s Day, which he called “the goddesses”.
