He knew how to take advantage of the chaos. Far from the leading duo and never in the race for victory, George Russell finally won, Sunday June 30, at the Austrian Grand Prix, after an accident between Max Verstappen and Lando Norris seven laps from the finish. Consistent throughout his race, the Briton won the second Grand Prix of his career after that of Brazil in 2022, the latest success to date for his Mercedes team. Oscar Piastri (McLaren) and Carlos Sainz (Ferrari) completed the podium.
Largely in the lead throughout the first half of the race, Max Verstappen saw Lando Norris return after a slow second pit stop and a poor exit after this tire change. The two men battled for nearly ten laps before finally colliding and both puncturing. The Dutchman, who was able to restart, finished fifth, while his runner-up in the drivers’ standings had to retire. The Silverstone Grand Prix, scheduled for Sunday July 7, promises a new battle.
