Geoff Molson felt the time had come to give the Canadiens a boost

The president and owner of the Montreal Canadiens, Geoff Molson, was not offered a third long-term contract to his general manager Marc Bergevin, which is why he decided to wipe out the head of the club’s hockey operations.

Praising the Habs playoff run last summer by pointing out that this team was Bergevin’s, he did not fail to point out that the team had almost been eliminated in the first round by the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Molson recalled that the team had also had several disappointing seasons in recent years and were not performing to match their talent this season, which is part of the reason why he needed more time before deciding if he was going to offer a new contract to his CEO

Expressing a desire to go there with a fresh start in all aspects of hockey operations, Molson made the decision to fire Bergevin, Assistant General Manager Trevor Timmins, and Vice President of Public Affairs and Communications Paul Wilson.
