(Geneva) Canadian Denis Shapovalov lost his flag in the second round at the Geneva Open.

Belarusian Ilya Ivashka defeated Shapovalov 6-4, 6-7(2), 6-3 in two hours and 16 minutes.
Shapovalov, seeded third and 15and in the world rankings, had earned a bye in the first round and was in his first match of the tournament.
Ivashka, 50and world racket, was slightly more efficient than the 23-year-old Ontarian on serve. He gave Shapovalov a single break point and saved it.
For his part, Shapovalov allowed eight break points to Ivashka, who converted two.
Ivashka closed the books on her first chance in the third set.
In the quarter-finals, Ivashka will face Portugal’s Joao Sousa, who won 6-4, 6-3 against fifth-seeded Georgian Nikoloz Basilashvili.
In other matches on Wednesday, fourth-seeded American Reilly Opelka beat Australian Christopher O’Connell 6-3, 7-5, Dutch Tallon Griekspoor defeated Swiss Johan Nikles 6-3, 7 -5, Norway’s Casper Ruud, No. 2, beat France’s Benoît Paire 6-3, 6-1 and Australia’s Thanasi Kokkinakis won 1-6, 7-5, 7-5 against Argentinian Federico Delbonis, No. 7.
